Apparently, the fragility of black masculinity happened to forget the name of the most decorated woman in sports history, as her engagement, for whatever reason, seemed to be a direct attack against their manhood. If you haven’t guessed it already, Alexis Ohanian isn’t black, and black men made their grievance clear: their ‘Black Queen’ had betrayed them.
Serena Williams is engaged to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian after a little over a year of dating.
In the Reddit subthread “/isaidyes,” Williams, 35, gushed about how Ohanian, 33, popped the question: I came home A little late Someone had a bag packed for me And a carriage awaited Destination: Rome To escort me to my very own “charming” Back to where our stars first collided And now it was full circle At the same table we first met by chance This time he made it not by chance But by choice Down on one knee He said 4 words And r/isaidyes Ohanian commented, “And you made me the happiest man on the planet.” The under-the-radar couple have been together since October 2015, despite reports of Williams allegedly getting cozy with race car driver Lewis Hamilton in October.
Williams has previously been linked to Drake, who is now rumored to be getting close with Jennifer Lopez.
This is such an exciting time in Serena Williams‘ life right now.
“When I date someone I never see color,” Serena said, “I date who I have chemistry with, but I must say Alexis has treated me better than any Black man I have dated.” This seemed to have upset some on social media.
I’m not sure why especially if Serena is speaking on HER experience with dating. Who cares who anyone chooses to date in this day and age. Serena has been been known to date rappers Drake and Common as well as former NFL linebacker Lamar Arrington and basketball star Amare Stoudemire.
The most decorated woman in sports history has time and time over proved her ‘blackness’ (even though she never had to), including showing her appreciation for black culture and the importance of its preservation.
Serena Williams has stood defiant as a black woman, even when black men disrespected her with sexist, misogynistic, transphobic remarks over her looks or for simply being a passionate, bossed up black woman.
That might have been Victoria Secret's Supermodel Miranda Kerr.
She announced her engagement simultaneously on Snapchat, Twitter and Instagram.
Over the weekend, the 44-year-old rapper was spotted at the grand opening of the Yetunde Price Resource Center, an organization which offers assistance to victims of violence founded by Serena and sister Venus Williams.
